Since the days of “American Idol”, Kelly Clarkson has rocked the international charts. With her first debut song of “A Moment Like This”, fans all around the globe knew that she was going to be something special. Kelly’s first cd, aptly titled “Thankful”, brought about such hits as “Miss  Independent” and “ The Trouble with Love Is”. Soaring to multi platinum, status, record producer, Clive Davis knew that he, as well as the American public, had struck gold when they selected Kelly Clarkson as their American Idol.

 

If Kelly could depict what the future held in store for her, she hit the nail on the head wither her sophomore album, “Breakaway”.  “Breakaway” sold more albums that her “Thankful” cd, and stayed on the top 10 countdown for many weeks. Her song “Because of You” was a Grammy award winner, which was of no surprise to her fans.  Her sultry voice yet powerful vocal chords could move mountains.  One of her biggest hits, “Since U Been Gone” became a number one hit all around the world, selling not only albums, but music downloads. Quickly become the music anthem for the summer, “Since U Been Gone” blared out of car windows from fans young and old alike.

 

Although Kelly has been a multi-platinum selling artist, the itch for Kelly to write her own music had been finally scratched.  In her recent cd, “My December”, Kelly wrote all of the songs herself.  She has been quoted as saying that she was tired of singing songs that were nothing but “ ear candy” and wanted to write songs that were meaningful. Having not been one to care about the sales of an album, Clive Davis wanted Kelly to change her entire album.  To let a singer write her music seemed absurd to him, and, as he believed was sure to be a flop. After creating a summer concert tour, Kelly had to fire her manager because the none of the arenas where she was playing had sold out.  Clearly, Kelly’s manager had bitten off more than he could chew. With Clive Davis disliking her writing abilities, the firing of her manager, and the cancellation of her entire summer tour, Kelly was all but nervous when she was awaiting the release of “ My December”.

 

On June 26, 2007, Kelly Clarkson’s third and most recent album, “My December” was released. Much to the jargon of naysayer and critics alike, My December sold over 300,000 copies in its first week. Clearly, it was a triumphant sale for Kelly and her fans alike. With world-wide sales having currently been at 500,000, Kelly is clearly on her way to making her hand-penned album her greatest success yet. It is with certainty that Kelly must be proud that she stuck to her guns, and knew what was best for her. With Reba McIntire’s husband, Narvel, as her new manager, things are only bound to be sweeter and more free for Kelly than ever before.
